Dear Peggy:

What would you say to a woman who has lost her minister husband to encourage her about the future?

This is a situation many of us may face at some point.  I sought answers from friends who recently
had become widowed.  Here is one candid response.

JS: I lost my husband 3 1/2 years ago.  He went to put gas in the motorhome while our grandson and I played in the park.  The police called me saying he had collapsed and wasn't breathing.

As I stood by his still form in ER, I sensed God's awesome presence. I leaned over and whispered to my husband, "You beat me home!"  God's presence was so very powerful in those moments.

The days following I was overwhelmed at the peace in my heart.  I thought I understood 'peace that passes understanding' but I really didn't until then.   I felt impressed to begin each day saying to the Lord, "Thank you" as soon as my feet touched the floor.

I determined I would not allow self-pity to rob me of God's wonderful presence!   Early on during worship in church it was as if I heard the Lord whisper to me, "Your husband is here in my presence worshiping. You can join in, if you'd like."  What a privilege!

I found even though I was alone, God's love still burned in my heart to share His wonderful love with others.  Doors of ministry began opening. What joy it is to continue in ministry, sharing Jesus Christ.
